Canary Island airports recorded over 3 million passenger journeys in February 2016
The eight Canary Island airports received 3,230,728 passenger journeys during February, representing a 13.8% increase over the same month last year. The busiest airports in the archipelago for passenger traffic were Gran Canaria with 1,036,836 journeys (+13.4%) and Tenerife with 869 061 (+ 12.2%), ranking third and fourth in AENA network.
So far this year, the number of passenger journeys which have passed through Canary Island airports amounts to 6,510,507, 12.1% more than the first two months of last year.
NB: AENA have a tendency to count “operations” meaning individual journeys (i.e. a tourist will usually undertake a minimum of two operations, with a flight to get here and a flight home); tourist board numbers are usually counted per head; and occupancy rates are counted in beds per night
