Canaries among top Easter holiday destinations for Spaniards
5.03.2016 - The country's National Association of Travel Agents reports that bookings are up 7% on last Easter, an improvement they interpret as further evidence of the recovery of the Spanish economy and greater disposable income enjoyed by families of late. The top regions in terms of bookings are Andalusia, Catalonia, the Canaries and the Balearics, an Association spokesman announced yesterday. The news has been welcomed in the Canaries, where a considerable effort has been made in recent times to attract holidaymakers from mainland Spain due to their high spending. The hotel sector in the islands anticipates an occupancy rate in exzcess of 90% for Easter, according to the latest surveys. Among foreign destinations, Paris, London, Berlin and Rome top the boookings table for Spaniards, although Warsaw and Moscow are also proving popular. The travel agents report that the prospects for the summer months are looking healthy, with many Spaniards opting to book much earlier than in recent years.
