  • Nature
  • Culture and Entertainment

Despite only being 90 kilometres from the African continent, Mother Nature has been generous with the Canary Islands - a garden in the middle of the Atlantic thanks to the trade winds which along with the sea breezes and the gentle current from the Golf of Mexico give rise to some warm, but not hot summers and mild winters with temperatures of between 13º and 21º Celsius. This makes it possible to enjoy - on a single island- a radiant sun on splendid beaches all while it snows in the peaks due to the peculiar micro-climate phenomenon.

The natural charm of the Islands is reflected in the one hundred forty Protected Natural Areas, including four spectacular.

National parks out of the twelve found in Spanish territory and where the beauty of the volcanic past contrasts with the spectacular nature and leafiness of the native forests thanks to a climate where the flora and fauna - such as the laurel forests, tabaibas and Canary Islands palm trees and their extensive variety of birds and marine colonies and seabeds are unique in the world.

The culture of the Canary Islands is evident in many ways. There are many cultural activities available on each one of the seven islands: music, theatre, literature…These offers can be enjoyed in the important Canary Islands auditoriums, theatres and art centres.

You can attend any of the many cultural events of renowned European prestige such as the Classic Music Festival, which is held simultaneously on all the islands; the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Film Festival, the Spanish market for new film productions at screenings (Lanzarote); opera and zarzuela seasons at the Pérez Galdós Theatre (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria) and performances at the Guimerá Theatre (Santa Cruz de Tenerife); art exhibits at the Lanzarote Contemporary Arts Museum, at the "El Tanque" Cultural Facility in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and at the Atlantic Centre for Modern Art (CAAM) in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where you can also find the Canary Islands Museum where you can delve into the most remote past of the Archipelago, just as you can at the Museum of Natural History and Man (Santa Cruz de Tenerife).
